Marathon Relay : Race Information

The marathon relay provides opportunities for runners of all abilities. Participants vary from the fleet-footed racing clubs to groups of friends who just want to run for a good cause. In fact, the relay has been the work horse of races when it comes to fundraising. Visit the Fund-Raising page to learn more about how you can help.

The relay follows the marathon course. There are 6 legs to the marathon relay: 4 miles, 5 miles, 3 miles, 5 miles, 3 miles and 6.2 miles. A relay team consists of 2 to 6 people who run all of the legs in order. Relay exchanges are made with a hand slap. The relay team member who runs the last leg is the only runner to wear a timing chip to capture the finishing time. The start time for relay teams is the "gun time". To be eligible for the course record, a team must consist of 6 people.

Visit the course information page to watch the course video and learn about the exchange points.

Chip timing will again be provided by AllSportCentral with the ChampionChip® system for fast and accurate race results.

Corporate Cup

NEW EVENT

We're excited to introduce a new event for the 2009 Brookings Marathon. The Corporate Cup Challenge allows businesses and organizations to promote fitness to their employees, raise money for charity, and encourage community involvement.

How does it work?

Businesses or organizations form marathon relay teams and compete for prizes while raising money for the Boys and Girls Club of Brookings. Marathon relay teams consist of 6 members with each member running either a 3, 4, 5 or 6.2 mile leg of the race. Each marathon relay team must have at least 4 members that are employed by the sponsoring business or organization.

Prizes will be given to the team with the fastest finishing time and the team that raises the most money.

Teams have the option of paying the regular marathon relay registration fees ($90 prior to March 31; $120 after March 31), or raising money by asking family and friends for donations. Teams that raise more than $300 will have their registration fee waived.

Winning teams and their supporting business/organization will be recognized in local media outlets.

How do I sign up?

Team Captains register your team online. When registering your team select the Corporate Cup - Marathon Relay event and use your business organization as your team name.
