LAST MINUTE RACE TIPS

Runners Guide: Study it!
Travel: Avoid crowded places, mask in public, and keep hands clean when traveling to and from Brookings. Packet Pickup: Make a point to pick up on Friday from 2-8 PM at Pioneer Park (new location for 2020). More time, more daylight. Saturday Parking: Favor the large lot by Cinema 8 (219 6th Street). Three blocks away and better lighting early. Take care crossing 6th Street. Staging: We need your help. Parking is less than five minutes from the start. Plenty of room in Pioneer Park, so please stay spread out until five minutes before your wave start time. If the grass is wet, you may stand on the park roadway. Plan to have Wave #3 stage closer to the finish line and Wave #2 closer to the start area. See map in the Runners Guide. Remember, your time will not start until you cross the mat, so no rush. Start Area: Mask, bib, and wrist band (confirming temp check) will all be REQUIRED to enter the start area. Masks: REQUIRED at the start, and we encourage at all times when not running. Just do it…for your safety and those around you. You can wear your own face covering, but we will also provide a disposable one in your race packet. You may remove the mask AFTER you start running. If you plan to drop the mask, please do so in the first two blocks (before the turn onto 4th Street) so volunteers can clear them from the course. Pacers: Details in the Runners Guide. Reach out to [email protected] with any questions. Finish: Another area with potential for congestion. Catch your breath, then keep moving down the finish chute and out into the wide-open green area east of the bandshell. Dining options: There are several good eating options in Brookings. Check out these coupons from local restaurants that are ready for runners. Good luck runners! Stay well, travel safely, and we will see you soon! |

BROOKINGS MARATHON
Updated: 8/1/2020
We are excited to share our latest update with you. Race day is just over a month away, all races have filled, and the committee is preparing for another great event. Marathon runners will experience a new section on the course this year. With the addition of the Nature Park, we’ve made a great course even better! Measured and fully certified, the change features a beautiful bike path through trees and around ponds at miles 15 to 16. As always, we have over 200 volunteers out there to support you. Every corner will have a painted white arrow, orange cone, and volunteer waving directions. But with the smaller field and wave start this year, runners will spread out. So take a minute to carefully review the entire course here. As mentioned last month, we will have some additional safety measures in place for 2020. Our Brookings Marathon Runners Guide should be available in the next couple of weeks with all of the details. Stay healthy, keep training, and we hope to see you soon! BROOKINGS MARATHON PREPARATION CONTINUES
BROOKINGS MARATHON PREPARATION CONTINUES
Updated: 6/15/2020
We continue to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic. Local trends remain favorable, and the committee is busy preparing for a safe and enjoyable September 12th event.
Runner and volunteer safety remain our top priority. With guidance from the CDC, USATF, and our local authorities, we plan to implement the following measures to better protect everyone involved in race weekend: Emphasis on safe distancing at all times Extended packet pickup outdoors Limited field size Wave start Masks for volunteers and runners (except while racing) Increased number of hand hygiene stations Post-race nutrition packet And more… A smaller event in a rural state may be better able adapt to these safe racing requirements, but we are not completely sheltered from the unpredictable nature of this pandemic. In spite of our planning and preparation, factors beyond our control may intervene. For now, continue to do your part in stemming this pandemic. Follow CDC guidelines. Stay well and keep training. Your custom medals, shirts and bags are ready to go! Know that we are working hard as well, and will keep you updated as race day approaches. Check back here and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest. Brookings Marathon Race Committee |
IMPORTANT COVID-19 UPDATE
BROOKINGS MARATHON RACES POSTPONED
BROOKINGS MARATHON RACES POSTPONED
Updated: 3/22/2020
Due to escalating concerns about the coronavirus pandemic, and in consultation with state and local entities, the Brookings Marathon Committee has made the difficult decision to postpone this year’s races to Saturday, September 12, 2020. The wellbeing of our runners and volunteers remains our top priority, and we are unable to prepare for and host a safe event this spring.
Currently registered runners and relay teams have THREE options:
We are runners, just like you, and we share your disappointment. Our volunteer committee has invested nearly a year of time and resources into preparation for the event. The majority of race expenses have already been incurred, and we are unable to offer refunds. Thank you in advance for your support and understanding. This is a challenging time for all of us. But as a running community, we are always up to a challenge. The web site will be updated to keep runners informed of any future changes. We look forward to welcoming you to Brookings later this year or next. In the meantime, stay safe and keep running! Brookings Marathon Race Committee Questions: [email protected] |
